Rifle target shooting involves a wide range of disciplines, at target ranges between 10-50M. At Munster Target Shooting club, we provide training and run completions in the following disciplines:

Sporting Rifle

Sporting Rifle involves shooting at a fixed Target from a prone position with the rifle supported on the shooters hand.

The Prone position involves the shooter lying flat on the ground. The Shooter may wear a shooting jacket, sling and a shooting glove which aid them in maintaining the shooting position for the duration of the match.

MTSC run Sporting Rifle competitions for rifles chambered in 22lr ammunition. The Most popular competitions are shot at 50m.

Benchrest Rifle

Benchrest Rifle involves shooting at a fixed target from a seated position with the rifle resting on a bench.

This is one of the best shooting disciplines for the beginner. It is also one of the most challenging shooting disciplines for the seasoned target shooter.

Gallery Rifle

Gallery Rifle involves shooting small calibre rifles from the shoulder. There are a wide range of disciplines which involve shooting from different positions including sitting, kneeling and standing. Some of the more advanced disciplines also include shooting from both the strong and weak shoulders.

Gallery Rifle is subdivided into:

  • Smallbore Gallery Rifle (GRSB) which is for semi automatic rifles chambered in 22lr ammunition.
  • Centrefire Gallery Rifle (GRCF) which is for lever action rifles chambered in pistol calibres such as .38, .357 and .44.
